Alzheimer's

Caring For Your Loved One, Caring For Yourself

by Sharon Fish

Publisher's Description:

As the reality sinks in, so does the uncertainty and sorrow: "How can I handle my loved one's changing behavior? Where can I turn for help?" The difficulties of caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's are all too real, but they are not the whole story. There is help and hope for caregivers. Find answers to these and other common questions:

  • What causes Alzheimer's and what are the early symptoms?
  • Is there any specific treatment or cure?
  • How can I handle my anger, guilt, and depression?
  • How can I keep my loved one safe?
  • Is a nursing home necessary?
  • What resources are available?

Drawing on personal experiences of caring for a parent with Alzheimer's and a professional background in hospital, community, and nursing home settings, Sharon Fish looks at the facts about Alzheimer's and the realities caregivers face. All caregivers---family or professional---will find up-to-date medical information, practical advice on how to cope with the demands of caregiving, and encouragement for handling their own tangled emotions and fears.

"Sharon Fish speaks with authority on one of the toughest assignments anyone can be asked to do---care for a loved one who has Alzheimer's disease. Her loving treatment of the problem makes this book very special." Granger Westberg, author of "Good Grief".

"An immensely practical, thoughtful, and compassionate book." Barbara Vickers,R.N., Facilitator, Alzheimer's Support Group, Greenville,NC.
